Coming into the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the US Women’s National Team were heavy favorites to win their third straight World Cup. Yeah, about that.
After a third straight uninspiring performance that saw their tournament’s hopes saved by the post, the US Women’s National Team is getting hammered for what was, quite honestly, an embarrassing display of soccer. They tied lowly Portugal 0-0, advancing out of the group stage in second place with 5 points, behind The Netherlands’ 7.
It wad just a terrible performance all around. The USA was thoroughly outplayed in the midfield by the Portuguese, and came this close to being eliminated in the group stage for the first time in the history of the Women’s World Cup.

Result they needed but my goodness what a terrible performance. In some ways it seems like the team is getting worse as the tournament goes on, not better. Round of 16 is going to be very rough I think. I’m hoping everyone wakes up and pulls it together but gosh….

USWNT tactics were terrible. Fast break after fast break, not beating the Portugal players back. Frantic desperate passes forward.
What's worse is there was no change, no adjustment. Fast break, and then high press tiring out your team, making any late finish almost impossible.

There needs to be several changes on the US womens national soccer team. That was a terrible performance. No leadership. Time to revamp after this World Cup.

Seriously, they were that bad. They do advance to the round of 16 though, and will likely play Sweden Sunday morning.
