Any man who has seen it happens know the feeling.
The brutal mix of humor and dread when an athlete takes a show below the belt.
Whether it’s a kick in an MMA fight, or a baseball that bounces up on a catcher the wrong way, watching another dude get hit in the groin evokes a level of empathy many of us didn’t know existed.
But during Wednesday night’s US Men’s National Team Gold Cup soccer match against St. Kitts and Nevis, things reached a new level.
The US entered the tournament as defending champs. While St. Kitts, which is home to less than 50,000 people, is making its first ever appearance.
So, unsurprisingly, the Yanks walked away with a dominant victory to put them atop their group. But it was an unfortunate incident in the 85th minute of the game that stole the show.
OUCH

Despite the US already leading 6-0, St. Kitts defender Gerard Williams was still playing his heart out. Williams is the country’s most experienced player, having played 80 international games.
He may now regret that decision.
Williams went to the ground to tackle the ball away from USA midfielder Djordje Mihailovic. He won the tackle, but the ball came back out to US player Cristian Roldon. Roldon then uncorked a shot from outside the box that went flying directly into Williams’ nether regions.
He could then be heard screaming on the ground before the match was stopped so that he could recover. Ultimately, Williams got back up a few minutes later. But it was one of the most straight-on, brutal nut shots we have ever seen.
I'm pretty sure this is a violation of the Geneva Convention. St. Kitts and Nevis should file a complaint with the UN. #USMNT #SKNvUSA #GoldCup https://t.co/0uc4XG2WZD

Talk about adding injury to insult. The US will play Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday night at 7 p.m. ET to finish off Group A play. A victory likely sees the Yanks win the group. The knockout stage of the tournament begins with the quarterfinals on July 8.
