We’ve officially passed the halfway point of the 2024-25 Premier League season and Liverpool surprisingly sits atop the table with 50 points, six ahead of Arsenal. The Reds have impressed in their first season under new manager Arne Slot after Jurgen Klopp surprisingly stepped away from the club.
But there’s still plenty of season left, and Slot may now have some work to be done in the dressing room after midfielder Curtis Jones inexplicably threw shade at superstar teammate Mohamed Salah.
“I know this might go a little bit left with our fans because the comparison is always there, but Hazard is the one [I’d pay to watch],” Jones said in an interview with former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports.
“I know we compare him with Mo all the time and I’ve been into it with Mo. I play it from, who I saw as a kid when I loved the game and I wanted to be like a player. I feel like it was Hazard. Every game, I’d watch him, just like, ‘wow, that’s football.’
“I wouldn’t say he’s disrespected, but he might not come into certain [conversations] that he should. It’s a talk I’ve had with Mo and all the lads. As a footballer, is he better than Mo? In my opinion, yes. But who would you rather have in your team? They’re going to say Mo because he gets you your goals and assists.”
Now, to his credit, Jones did try to rescue the situation. He told Ferdinand that he’d rather have Salah as a teammate. He also took to Twitter to try to diffuse the situation.

But you have to wonder why he’d even say what he said to begin with. Not that it’s not a fair point. But Salah is your teammates. You are currently in a title fight. Why say anything at all that could throw off the vibes? We can’t imagine Slot, or Jones’s teammates, are very happy about this interview.
